Kinsta vs WP Engine (2026): Plans Compared
Kinsta and WP Engine list the same entry price. The biggest difference is what happens after year one on annual billing, and how much a plan includes for that price.

What each costs over three years
We use the same method on every pair: listed prices, unchanged, with no tax. WP Engine's annual first-year price is a discount, so its years two and three use the listed regular price.
| Billing | Kinsta Launch | WP Engine Essential, 1 site |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $1,225 | $1,260 |
| Annual | $1,050 | $1,176 |
Kinsta Launch includes more storage and visits than WP Engine's 1-site tier for these totals, so the totals buy different limits.

Differences that matter for a store
What the price becomes after year one
Kinsta's annual price is listed as $350 a year. WP Engine's annual first year is $336, and its page says the discount is for new customers only. Its regular price for the same tier is $420 a year, and the page says renewal pricing is subject to change.
What the same visit allowance costs
For about 75,000 estimated visits a month, Kinsta Launch is $35 a month and covers 1 site. WP Engine's tier with 75,000 estimated visits is $65 a month and covers 3 sites, with 15 GB of storage, the same as Launch. Which is better value depends on how many sites you run.
How long backups are kept
Kinsta lists 14 days backup retention. WP Engine says backups are kept for no less than 30 days and no longer than 60. The hosts word this differently, so compare how each restores a site before relying on it.
Refunds and cancellation
Kinsta's terms call fees non-refundable and say a cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. WP Engine's terms say the agreement renews unless you give notice 30 days before it ends. We found no money-back window in either. [Human check: confirm both hosts' current refund positions.]
Choose Kinsta if... choose WP Engine if...
- Choose Kinsta if you run one store, want 15 GB of storage on the entry plan, or want an annual price that, on the page, stays $350 a year.
- Choose WP Engine if you run several sites on one plan, or want backups kept for between 30 and 60 days.
- Look at another host if you want a stated money-back period. See our Cloudways review and the guide to the best ecommerce hosting.
Common questions
Is Kinsta or WP Engine cheaper?
At the entry level they list the same monthly price, $35 a month. On annual billing, WP Engine's first year is $336 against Kinsta's $350, but WP Engine's listed regular price is $420, so Kinsta is cheaper from year two on these figures.
Which keeps backups longer, Kinsta or WP Engine?
Kinsta's pricing page lists 14 days backup retention. WP Engine says it keeps backups for no less than 30 days and no longer than 60. On these published figures WP Engine keeps backups for longer, but the two hosts describe backups differently, so check how each handles restores before you choose.
Do Kinsta and WP Engine offer a money-back period?
Kinsta's terms say fees are non-refundable except where the agreement says otherwise. We found no money-back window in WP Engine's terms either, and WP Engine's terms only refund unused annual fees if it ends the agreement for convenience. Confirm the current refund position with each host before you pay.
